PESHAWAR:

Peshawar High Court issued notices to the vice chancellor and registrar of the University of Agriculture, Peshawar after employees filed a writ seeking job permanency.

The bench, comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Syed Afsar Shah, were hearing a writ filed by junior clerks Muhammad Javed, Muhammad Asghar, Usman and others on Monday. The judges were informed the petitioners were recruited on contract in 2008.

Petitioners’ counsel Ijaz Anwar argued they were recruited on contracts on permanent vacancies. He told the court, “They have filed several applications to be made permanent employees but the university administration didn’t pay heed.”

Anwar added the petitioners would be deprived of their basic rights if not regularised. He requested the court to allow the writ and order the university to regularise their jobs. The bench, after hearing the arguments, issued notice to VC and registrar of the university.
