HANGU:

The officers of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) met elders at the power company’s office in Hangu city on Thursday to discuss power supply and discourage electricity theft.

On behalf of Pesco, engineering superintendent Jamaluddin Dawar and executive engineer Gohar Rahman discussed issues related to prolonged power breakdowns, billing and other pertinent problems. The elders were led by Hayat Wazir.

At the very onset of the meeting, Pesco officials reminded participants payments of around Rs1.5 billion were pending against customers all over Hangu district.

They said customers needed to help with early clearance of these liabilities and arrears. Pesco representatives also explained how electricity theft and kunda system disrupt power supply. “Technical faults arise when people steal electricity,” they added.

The two sides agreed to cooperate. The elders assured Pesco officials they would discourage electricity theft; those who do not cooperate would face stern action.

Elders suggested Pesco should frame strategies to collect arrears from defaulters. The elders appreciated field and line staffers for their role in providing power to customers.
