Govt to provide resources to fish harbour

Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri, has assured that the government will provide all required resources to Pasni Fish Harbour (PFH) to expand it and make it functional as soon as possible.

“The government will take concrete steps for the development of fisheries sector and for the welfare of fishermen,” he said.

He was presiding over a meeting to review the rehabilitation of the harbour here on Friday.

Secretary fisheries, Arshad Bugti, briefed the meeting about the rehabilitation of the fish harbour.

The chief minister said that PFH was playing a key role in providing jobs to local fishermen and exporting of a variety of fishes from Balochistan.

However, he said that due to some issues the harbor had been dysfunctional for a long time.

He directed the authorities to make the harbor functional as soon as possible, adding that the projects funded by Japan for the rehabilitation of PFH should be executed within the given timeframe.  “The provincial government will provide every possible assistance and support for the timely restoration of harbor,” he said.

Earlier, briefing the meeting, managing director PFH said that in 2010 the rehabilitation of the harbour kicked off with the Japanese grant, but out of its three main components only its dredging was started. He said that due to lack of funds the pace of dredging and other works is slow.

The chief minister also assured that the funds for the project would be provided and directed early restoration of the harbor so that the local people and the province could benefit from it.
