Pakistan’s high commissioner in New Delhi has called for the speedy resolution of the standoff between the two countries at the Siachen Glacier, The Hindustan Times reported on Thursday. His statement came days after an avalanche at the glacier claimed the life of an Indian soldier.

“It is very sad and unfortunate that human lives are being lost on Siachen due to very harsh weather conditions,” Abdul Basit told an Indian news channel. “Such incidents only reinforce the need to settle this issue peacefully, amicably and urgently.

Troops will stay in Siachen, says Indian defence minister

“We hope that both the countries take this issue seriously and engage with each other to settle this issue as quickly as possible.”

Qasim | 8 years ago | Reply India van afford to stay in the barren, desolate resourceless Siachen glacier, it can easily afford the human lives being lost there. Soldiers are from poor families anyways, when was the last time you ever heard of the son of a minister or politician dying in such places. And the poor are expendable anyways, India had to many people for the poor country's resources to feed... A nuclear war would remove 90% of the population of the subcontinent, that's what BJPs RSS ideologues wish for and talk about anyways.
