LAHORE: Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed has filed a petition in Lahore High Court (LHC) against irregularities in purchase of medicines at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC). The opposition leader, who is also chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, filed the petition through Advocate Sheraz Zaka saying, “He wants to expose corruption and malpractices of the provincial government and its functionaries involved in misappropriation of tax payers’ money with regard to purchase of medicines and other disposable items at the PIC.” The petitioner said the government had awarded a contract to a private medical store for the purchase. He said the medical store had been blatantly flouting terms and conditions of the contract by providing medicines at exorbitant rates. He prayed that details of the contract be presented before the PAC.
