KARACHI:

In a bid to expand its politics to the Punjab, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced on Monday the formation of a provincial committee.

This was announced by Rabita Committee member Kunwar Naveed Jamil during a press conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat. "A new provincial committee for the Punjab is being formed to improve the party's organisational work and prepare for the next general elections," he said. Senator Mian Ateeq will be the president of the 13-member committee in the Punjab.

The MQM leader said that because of the ongoing Karachi operation in which the MQM is being targeted, they have not been able to give their full attention to their activities in the Punjab. The party's organisational structure in Punjab is currently divided in zones.

"In the next general elections in 2018, we will win many seats from Punjab," said a hopeful Jamil. The party's membership is growing, he claimed.
