ISLAMABAD: In a move against corrupt elements within its own ranks, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested an official from the anti-graft body’s Lahore office.

In the inquiry against Chaudhry Muhammad Ramzan, Advocate Tandliyanwala and others, NAB Lahore arrested Frass Hamid, an officer from the same office, on allegations of abatement and rendering illegal assistance to the accused.

The suspects in the case, who have already been arrested by NAB, were held for receiving bribes and illegal gratification from persons involved in different cases under process at NAB’s Lahore bureau on various occasions. The accused is said to have made false promises of influencing the outcome of the cases, the bureau said.

The arrest is an outcome of the bureau’s internal accountability mechanism, put in place by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.
