Employment Standards: Govt zeroes in on labour laws

Under the Rules of Business (1973), it has the mandate to seek employment opportunities for Pakistanis abroad

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is functioning in close coordination with provincial governments to revive new labour and employment laws that were on its concurrent legislative list, said a senior official. Ministry of Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Development official said the ministry was mandated to perform functions broadly related to policy formulation regarding labour administration, manpower planning and employment promotion. The subject of labour and employment under the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (1973) was the top priority of the government, he said. Under the Rules of Business (1973), it has the mandate to seek employment opportunities for Pakistanis abroad and coordinate with provincial governments to align national labour laws with the Pakistan’s international obligations on labour standards, he added.
