ISLAMABAD:

A parliamentary panel will take up on Monday a bill that seeks to provide protection and welfare to unattended orphans.

Introduced by PPP Senator Karim Ahmed Khawaja, The Unattended Orphans (Rehabilitation and Welfare) Bill, 2013, remained dormant till the Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani gave a ruling in its favour some time back.

Senator Khawaja said that the state is responsible for looking after and protecting children. The bill, according to him, has been deliberately delayed by the government.

While speaking about the significance of the issue, Senator Rabbani commented: “A state which cannot look after its parentless children or children without names is really not a responsible state.” He added that these children are also the responsibility of the state and in other countries, he added.
