PESHAWAR:

Jamaat-e-Islami organised a three-day youth festival at Parda Bagh in the city, which started on Friday.

Teams participated in different sporting events such as kabaddi and football. Food and painting stalls were also set up at the mela. K-P Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, who was at the event, said healthy activities like these “will inevitably lead to peace and prosperity in the region”.

JI K-P Ameer Mushtaq Ahmad Khan said the government was preparing to impose a tax of Rs100 billion on the order of International Monetary Fund. He warned JI would not accept any more taxes, which will crush the overtaxed, poverty-ridden population. Mushtaq said rulers were pocketing the public’s money and the nation could not claim to be sovereign if it was imposing taxes on the order of IMF.
