ISLAMABAD:

Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani on Wednesday opposed the idea of sub division of present provinces to create new ones within the federation of Pakistan. “In present situation there is no room for creation of new provinces,” he said talking to the under training officers of Pakistan Administrative Service.

However, there should be consolidation of provincial issues in the light of the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the Senate chairman said according to a press release.

“Many cultural historical and political processes are involved in evolution and constitution of present provincial boundaries of Pakistan, therefore, the subdivision of present provincial boundaries merely on the basis of administrative reforms will lead to chaos in the country,” Rabbani said.

He also discussed the issue of out dated laws with the future bureaucrats. Even the laws dating back to 18th century have never been considered for amendment, said Rabbani. He mentioned that the amount of fine in some of these old laws is still 50 paisa (8 annas) or so.

Rabbani said the standing committees of the parliament should review such out dated laws in their concerned areas for necessary amendment as per present requirements in the country.
