BAHAWALPUR: Federal Minister for Education Balighur Rehman said on Tuesday that the government had initiated several projects for the uplift of people from marginalised communities.

He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of repair work in Satellite Town, Union Council 10, Bahawalpur. Under this project, local representatives will oversee laying of tuff tiles on streets and improvement of the area’s sewerage system. Rehman said the development projects initiated by the government will be completed on time and high quality will be ensured. The minister said that the masses had reposed confidence in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the government will not let its people down.

Rehman said that the government had promised free medical treatment to the poor. “Issuing Khidmat Cards to people with disabilities is the first step towards providing relief for the poor.”

He said the government had wasted no time in starting revolutionary projects to overcome the energy crisis. “We have promised to end load shedding by 2017 and we will keep this promise.”

Later, the minister inaugurated various development schemes in Dera Bhaka and Chak 37-BC. Rehman also participated in a mehfil-i-milad held in Chak 11-BC, and met with the newly elected chairman, vice chairman and counsellors in Bahawalpur’s grain market.
