Lahore gang-rape survivor attempts suicide after 'pressure from police, prosecution'

Victim's family says she jumped off her terrace under duress after being asked 'obnoxious' questions

LAHORE: A 15-year-old gang-rape survivor attempted suicide on Friday night after constant pressure from police and persecution, her family said on Saturday.

"She jumped off the terrace while everyone was asleep," a family member told The Express Tribune. The 15-year-old who was assaulted by at least eight men in a hotel in Lahore’s Mall Road was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The victim's family claimed that she attempted suicide under duress as police officials asked her 'obnoxious' questions during investigations.

The victim, a student of grade eight had left for a tailor’s shop near her house when she went missing, the complainant said. A day after her kidnapping, her family received a message that she was lying unconscious in a room of a hotel situated in Upper Mall, Lahore. Police recovered her and arrested six people, including the hotel manager.

Gang-rape case: Eight suspects remanded to police

The medical examination of the victim was conducted at Services Hospital, the results of which showed she had been gang raped, police said.

Police have registered a case against the accused persons, identified as PML-N Punjab Youth Wing additional secretary general Adnan Sana Ullah, Abdul Majid, Muhamamd Umar, Qamar Zaman, Ameer Muhammad, Haris and Bilal under sections 376 (ii), 506 of PPC on the complaint of the victim’s mother.
