KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), in a statement on Monday, announced that it needs at least 110 mmcfd of gas to fully utilise its gas-fired power generation capacity, which has been largely offline for want of gas.

“At present, gas supply to KESC remains at 30 mmcfd, which is insufficient for producing required electricity,” it said.

“As soon as gas supply improves (to 110 mmcfd), we will start reducing outages in industrial areas from 12 hours to zero. In the larger public interest, we have not increased power outages for our residential customers even at 30 mmcfd,” it added.
