Students, faculty and guests at the first convocation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SBBMU), Larkana, lost their patience when the chief guest and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah (CM) failed to reach the event on time on Saturday.

Around 590 students were expected to receive degrees at the convocation, however more than half of the students left the hall in protest against the absence of the chief guest. The Chandka Medical College, Larkana, principal and SBBMU vice-chancellor arrived at 12:30pm and 12:40pm respectively, while the convocation was scheduled to start at 10pm.

Mr Qaim Ali Shah, you have faced tremendous injustice at the grimy hands of this public

The students were asked to report at convocation hall by 9:30am. After much waiting, the lunch was served for the students and faculty, however soon after that almost half of the students left the venue without getting their degrees.

Some of the faculty members, who wished to stay anonymous, criticised the non-seriousness of the principal, vice-chancellor and the CM. Meanwhile, the CM reached the venue at 5:30pm and offered apologies for the late arrival and claimed that he was busy with some important meetings in Karachi. The CM said that convocation is a big day for the graduating students, who will soon set their feet in practical life. He added that the Sindh government has always provided jobs to the doctors and will keep on doing so.

A surprise from the skies
