KARACHI:

An anti-corruption court handed down on Monday five-year imprisonment to a former official of the now defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

Mumtazul Haq, who was working as an assistant director at KDA when the case was registered 18 years ago, was found guilty of fraudulently accumulating moveable and immoveable properties during his employment as a government servant which were incompatible to his known legitimate source of income.

An inquiry was initiated against him in 1995. After two years, the inquiry was turned into a formal case, following the collection of evidence incriminating him.

The case was registered against the accused under Section 5-C of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Until Monday, the accused was on bail. When the anti-corruption court pronounced the verdict, Haq was taken into custody to serve out the sentence in prison.
